Microsoft targets Windows 11 memory use on 8 GB PCs

Microsoft announced that it will reduce the memory footprint of Windows 11 on computers equipped with 8 GB of RAM or more. The effort is one of four focus areas for Windows development through the end of 2026, as outlined by Windows chief Pavan Davuluri. The roadmap calls for a more efficient memory allocator, tuning of the WinUI 3 framework, and optimisation of Chromium and WebView2 components to lower overall RAM consumption. No specific performance targets, benchmark figures or release dates have been disclosed. The changes are intended to make Windows 11 feel faster and more responsive on entry‑level laptops and other devices that ship with 8 GB of RAM, improving application launch times, UI responsiveness and reducing paging to the page file. The initiative is part of the broader Windows K2 improvement programme and will be delivered through Insider builds and future Windows updates.
