Microsoft and CD Projekt RED weigh console exclusivity and physical media

Microsoft is reportedly exploring potential console exclusivity for its major software titles. Leaked survey data suggests the company is gauging consumer reactions to a scenario where upcoming releases from Bethesda and Blizzard—including series such as Doom, Diablo, The Elder Scrolls, and Fallout—would bypass PlayStation and Nintendo hardware to launch exclusively on Xbox and PC.

The survey also indicates a radical possibility for Minecraft. While the game would remain available on existing platforms, Microsoft may stop providing new content updates to PlayStation and Nintendo versions, effectively leaving those users with older iterations of the game.

Separately, CD Projekt RED has confirmed its intention to continue releasing physical editions of its games, even if those products eventually consist of boxes containing digital codes and merchandise rather than traditional discs. This decision comes amid discussions regarding the industry-wide shift away from physical media and the logistical constraints of console manufacturer pressing plants.
