Microsoft announces Copilot discounts and OneDrive storage changes
Microsoft is implementing significant changes to its enterprise software ecosystem, focusing on AI integration and storage management. Starting in October 2026, the company plans to offer discounts of 30 to 50 percent on Copilot subscriptions for enterprise customers who purchase large volumes of licenses. The Copilot experience in Teams and Outlook is expected to shift toward a more chat-oriented design, utilizing dialog logic to streamline workflows. Additional updates include new SharePoint agents and an integrated browser within Copilot.
Separately, Microsoft is tightening restrictions on OneDrive for Business storage. Accounts that previously exceeded the 5 TB limit through legacy expansions will lose their protected status. Between November 2026 and February 2027, accounts exceeding 5 TB will be transitioned into a read-only mode, where files can be accessed or deleted but no new data can be added. To manage this, Microsoft is rolling out a pay-as-you-go model, with full availability expected by December 2026. This model allows administrators to pay for excess storage at a rate of $0.20 per GB per month via an Azure subscription.
