Microsoft announces service agreement updates and Publisher retirement

Microsoft is implementing significant changes to its service ecosystem and software availability. Starting September 30, 2026, a new Microsoft Services Agreement will take effect, governing consumer services such as Outlook, OneDrive, Skype, Xbox, and Copilot. The update includes provisions for automatic application updates to improve stability and security, as well as clearer definitions regarding cloud data management.

Additionally, Microsoft has announced the retirement of the Publisher application. For users with Microsoft 365 subscriptions, access to Publisher will end on October 1, 2026, meaning the software will no longer be installable and existing files may become difficult to edit without alternative software. Users with perpetual licenses, such as those included with Office 2021, will retain access to the application after official support and security updates cease on October 13, 2026.
