Microsoft boosts Windows UI with WinUI upgrades and server‑AI push

Microsoft announced enhancements to its Windows UI Library (WinUI) at the Build 2026 conference, aiming to improve performance, reduce memory usage and bring the experience closer to native Windows applications. The upgrades address developer complaints about slower load times and higher resource consumption, and are positioned as a stepping stone toward future Windows components for Windows 11.

The company’s earlier shift to “Windows as a Service” with the 2015 launch of Windows 10 marked a move away from boxed software, reshaping the PC market. Parallel to Microsoft’s software strategy, Taiwanese PC assembler Wistron, after a partnership with Nvidia, has pivoted to building AI‑focused servers, reporting $70.2 billion in revenue in 2025 and expanding production capacity in Texas to meet Nvidia’s demand.
