Microsoft celebrates 12 years of Windows Insider program

Microsoft is marking the 12th anniversary of the Windows Insider program, which launched in October 2014 to allow users to test new features before official release. To celebrate, the company has released a collection of ten new desktop wallpapers inspired by the Windows 11 ‘Bloom’ design language, available in both light and dark versions across various colors.

In addition to the anniversary, new preview builds have been released for various Insider channels. Updates for the Beta and Experimental channels include enhancements to the File Explorer context menu, improved Quick Settings for mobile devices, and an integrated internet speed test.

Other technical updates include support for Unicode 17.0, expanded Start menu customization, and more granular permission management for camera, microphone, and location access in desktop applications. Accessibility improvements have also been introduced, specifically for the Magnifier tool, featuring a high-contrast mode designed to reduce screen glare without altering the colors of photos and videos.
