Microsoft confirms Recycle Bin bug in Windows update KB5094126 across all versions

Microsoft has confirmed a bug introduced by the June Patch Tuesday update KB5094126 that affects the Recycle Bin on all supported Windows releases, from Windows 11 and 10 to Windows Server 2012‑2025. When a user attempts to permanently delete a file already in the Recycle Bin, the confirmation dialog displays the file’s internal temporary name instead of its actual name, creating a risk of deleting the wrong file. The issue does not impact the act of moving files to the Recycle Bin or direct deletions that bypass it.

The bug appears alongside other problems reported for the same update, including difficulties with OneDrive and Dropbox access, BitLocker recovery screen freezes, and occasional BSODs. Microsoft has acknowledged the Recycle Bin fault and said it is working on a remediation that will be included in a forthcoming Windows update.
