Xbox Project Helix to feature a family of devices including portable hardware

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has confirmed that the brand's next generation, codenamed Project Helix, will shift from a single-console model to a “family of devices.” During internal meetings, Sharma explained that the tenth generation aims to cater to diverse player needs, including those who play on the go. While Microsoft intends to produce a high-performance flagship console, the company also plans to introduce portable devices, potentially through partnerships with third-party manufacturers.

Technological details suggest the Project Helix ecosystem may utilize custom AMD silicon to support both Xbox and PC gaming seamlessly. Development of the new operating system is reportedly progressing well. This strategic pivot follows a period of significant restructuring within Microsoft Gaming, which included mass layoffs and studio closures. Despite these challenges, Sharma reported that the division has begun to see growth, with brand perception and engagement metrics increasing following recent reinvestments in core content and services.
