Microsoft considers closing Nairobi engineering operations

Microsoft is considering changes to its African Development Centre in Nairobi, Kenya, which may involve closing its engineering operations. This development has raised concerns regarding the stability of local technology jobs, the broader Kenyan startup ecosystem, and the long-term commitment of multinational corporations to African engineering talent.

In South Africa, DCC Holdings has secured R275 million in mezzanine funding from Kulu Capital. The company intends to utilize the capital for stock, supplier payments, and general operating costs as it transitions from a startup to a growth-stage business.

Additionally, the South African accommodation-booking platform Lekkeslaap is undergoing an ownership transition. After more than a decade of operation, the founders are exiting the business as new South African investors provide capital to support the platform’s continued expansion.
