Google Home integrates MCP to allow third-party AI agents control

Google is expanding its smart home ecosystem by integrating the Model Context Protocol (MCP), which allows third-party AI agents to interact with Google Home devices. This integration enables agents such as Claude, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google Antigravity, Hermes, and Open Claw to control connected hardware and analyze home event history.

Capabilities include using natural language to monitor activity, summarizing camera footage, and tracking device usage patterns, such as laundry cycles or lighting duration. The system supports Nest devices, Matter-compatible products, and other Works with Google Home hardware. To maintain security, the interface is designed to prevent agents from unlocking doors.

An early-access phase is expected to roll out in the coming weeks, initially limited to Google Home Premium Advanced users in the United States. This subscription is priced at $20 per month or $200 per year.
