Microsoft Copilot privacy settings allow users to manage chat history and personalization
Users of Microsoft Copilot can manage their data through specific settings for chat history and personalization. Disabling Copilot's personalization and memory settings causes the assistant to “forget its memories of your conversations,” ensuring that future responses are not shaped by previous interactions. This setting applies to the web version, the Edge sidebar, and the Windows 11 Copilot app for personal Microsoft accounts.
While turning off personalization prevents the AI from using learned details for future context, it does not automatically delete the visible chat transcript. Users can still view past conversations even after the toggle is switched off.
To manage prompt history, users can view, download, or delete activity via the Microsoft privacy dashboard. For personal accounts, history can be exported as a CSV file or wiped entirely. For work or school accounts, management options may differ, often requiring coordination with an IT administrator.
