Microsoft Copilot reaches 30 million seats amid app unification

Microsoft has reported significant growth for its Copilot AI service, reaching 30 million paid seats in its fiscal Q4 2026 earnings. This represents an increase of 10 million seats in just three months, marking the product's fastest growth period since launch.

Despite rising subscription numbers, questions remain regarding the return on investment (ROI) and the actual usage rates among employees. There is a noted “adoption gap” between purchasing licenses and integrating the tool into daily workflows. While 62% of companies are experimenting with AI agents, only about one-third have moved into scaled production use.

In tandem with this growth, Microsoft has officially unified the Copilot app and the Microsoft 365 Copilot app into a single “super app.” This update merges personal and business account access into a more consistent interface, though organizational security and privacy controls for business accounts remain separate.
