Microsoft Defender expands security capabilities to Linux desktops
Microsoft is expanding its cybersecurity strategy by bringing Microsoft Defender to Linux desktop environments. This move is primarily aimed at developers, IT professionals, and companies that manage heterogeneous infrastructures containing both Windows and Linux systems.
Currently available in public preview, the extension allows Linux users to access security tools previously reserved for server environments. The package includes capabilities beyond traditional antivirus software, such as endpoint detection and response (EDR), advanced threat hunting, vulnerability analysis, and device isolation.
This integration is designed to streamline workflows for IT administrators, allowing them to manage developer workstations with the same operational experience used for other corporate devices. The tool also includes features for machine inventory consultation and incident response assistance.
