Microsoft disables default text predictions in Word and Outlook

Microsoft has announced that text prediction tools will no longer be enabled by default in Word and Outlook. The company stated the decision aims to “provide a more consistent and user-controlled writing experience across Microsoft 365 applications” and to reduce “unwanted interruptions for those who prefer to write without suggestions appearing automatically.”

While the feature was designed to increase writing speed by suggesting words and phrases, some users reported that the tool acted as a distraction. The change shifts the feature from an opt-out model to an opt-in model, meaning users must manually enable it through settings if they wish to use it.

The update affects various versions of the software, including Word and Outlook for Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS, as well as web editions. The rollout is being implemented through recent Microsoft 365 updates.
