Microsoft encourages Xbox users to trade in unused consoles
Microsoft is contacting Xbox Series X|S owners who have not actively used their hardware, inviting them to trade in their consoles at Best Buy in exchange for eGift cards. Under the program, users can receive up to $375 for an Xbox Series X or up to $200 for an Xbox Series S, depending on the model, condition, and included accessories.
The initiative appears to be a response to ongoing hardware shortages and rising component costs, which have driven up console prices. By encouraging the trade-in of dormant hardware, Microsoft aims to increase the availability of refurbished consoles for new buyers at lower price points. This move follows previous company announcements regarding partnerships with retailers to provide previously used devices to the market.
Industry analysts suggest the timing is significant due to anticipated high demand for hardware ahead of the release of Grand Theft Auto VI. The program is currently being highlighted in the United States, though reports indicate similar trade-in value trends have been observed in other regions.
