Microsoft ends support for Windows 11 Home and Pro 24H2 editions

Microsoft announced that on 13 October 2026 it will end security updates and feature patches for the Windows 11 Home and Pro 24H2 editions. After the final October update, devices running these versions will no longer receive monthly security fixes. The company advises users to upgrade to the free Windows 11 25H2 update, which will continue to receive support. Enterprise and Education editions of Windows 11 24H2 retain support until 12 October 2027, and newer long‑term‑support releases of Windows 10 (LTSC 2019 and 2021) remain covered until 2029. Windows Server 2022 also loses mainstream support on the same date, but will stay protected through extended security updates until 14 October 2031. In a related change, Microsoft is rolling out new Secure Boot certificates that replace the original 2011 certificates. The new 2023‑based certificates will be delivered automatically via Windows Update to computers that can write to UEFI firmware, so older PCs will continue to boot normally without user intervention. Devices whose manufacturers no longer provide firmware updates may still function, though they could become more vulnerable over time.
