Microsoft ends new Microsoft 365 features for Windows 10

Microsoft is phasing out new functional updates for its productivity suite on Windows 10 to accelerate the transition to Windows 11. Following the official end of Windows 10 support in October 2025, the company has announced that Microsoft 365 applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, will stop receiving new features and Copilot AI enhancements.

The rollout of the final functional updates is tied to specific version releases, such as version 2608. While users will no longer see new tools or productivity innovations, Microsoft will continue to provide critical security patches for the Office suite and OneDrive until October 10, 2028.

For Windows 10 users, Microsoft offers an Extended Security Updates (ESU) program to provide an additional year of critical patches. In certain regions like the European Union, this program may be available at no cost for a limited period. However, users remaining on the older operating system will be effectively frozen in time regarding software capabilities, missing out on the latest AI-driven developments available on Windows 11.
