Microsoft Excel to phase out Exchange Connector
Microsoft is implementing a major change to Excel by phasing out the Exchange Connector. This connector, which allows access to email and calendar data via Microsoft Exchange, will be replaced by new interfaces as part of a gradual transition away from Exchange Web Services (EWS).
Users must manually update their workbooks to ensure continued functionality. Microsoft plans to begin customer testing of the new connectors in August 2026, with the final phase of the EWS shutdown scheduled for October. The existing Exchange Connector is expected to be completely discontinued by April 2027.
The update specifically impacts users of older Office versions. The new connectors will only be compatible with Microsoft 365 and Office 2024. Users relying on Office 2021 or earlier versions will need to upgrade to a newer version or a Microsoft 365 subscription to maintain Exchange connectivity.
