Microsoft expands Xbox reach through TCL partnership and cloud gaming

Microsoft is expanding the Xbox ecosystem by allowing users to stream games via the cloud without requiring dedicated console hardware. A new partnership with TCL will bring the Xbox app to select Smart TVs across more than 25 countries, enabling users to play supported titles using only a compatible television and an Xbox controller.

To facilitate access for casual players, Microsoft is introducing a model where users can purchase specific amounts of cloud gaming playtime through the Xbox Store rather than committing to a monthly subscription. This initiative aligns with a broader mission to reach billions of users across various devices.

However, new monthly cloud gaming limits will be implemented starting in November 2026. Under this structure, Essential users will receive 5 hours of playtime, Premium subscribers will receive 10 hours, and Ultimate subscribers will receive 15 hours per month. Once these limits are reached, both subscribers and non-subscribers will have the option to purchase additional hours, though specific pricing for these increments has not yet been disclosed.
