Microsoft extends Windows 10 security updates through 2027
Microsoft has extended the deadline for Windows 10 users to receive Extended Security Updates (ESU) through October 12, 2027. Users already enrolled in the ESU program will see their coverage continue automatically, while new users can still sign up via their Windows Update settings. Eligibility requires Windows 10 version 22H2 and a Microsoft account with administrator status. The program provides monthly security patches but does not include new features.
As an alternative for users with older hardware, ChromeOS Flex offers a way to repurpose functional Windows PCs. This free, web-focused operating system from Google is designed for tasks such as browsing, streaming, and cloud-based productivity. However, installing ChromeOS Flex permanently erases the computer's internal drive, requiring a full backup of personal files and settings before proceeding. Users are encouraged to test the OS via a USB drive first to ensure hardware compatibility for components like Wi-Fi and webcams.
