Microsoft GameInput adds DualSense features for PC developers

Microsoft has released GameInput 3.5, a new version of its Windows input API that includes a companion helper specifically designed for Sony’s DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers. This update provides developers with a more direct route to implementing specialized hardware features on PC without relying on external solutions.

Key features available through the update include control over the DualSense RGB lightbar, player LEDs, microphone mute indicators, and various vibration patterns. Developers can also utilize adaptive trigger effects to simulate resistance and feedback for actions such as weapon fire or environmental impacts. While Microsoft previously introduced gyroscope support, this version significantly expands the available toolkit.

It is important to note that this is not a system-wide native support update for all Windows users; rather, it provides the tools for game studios to implement these features. Individual games must be updated by developers to utilize the new capabilities. Additionally, the current helper is designed for USB connections and does not implement Bluetooth framing.
