Microsoft Xbox Series X Xbox Series S price increase component cost crisis

Microsoft announced that, from 1 August 2026, the recommended retail prices of its Xbox Series X and Series S consoles will rise across Europe and the United Kingdom. All models see increases of €150‑€200, pushing the entry‑level Series S (512 GB) to €499.99 (up from €349.99) and the 1 TB version to €599.99 (up from €399.99). The flagship Series X with disc now costs €799.99 (up from €599.99) and the digital‑only Series X 1 TB to €749.99 (up from €549.99). Microsoft also confirmed that the 2 TB Series X variant will be discontinued.

The company attributes the price adjustments to a sharp rise in component costs: storage and memory prices have more than 2.5 times higher than a year ago, and Microsoft expects those costs to double again by the autumn of 2027. The hikes have triggered strong criticism from gamers across Europe, who note that the consoles are now significantly more expensive than at launch six years earlier.
