Microsoft integrates AI agents and enhanced search into Windows 11
Microsoft is implementing a significant transformation of the Windows 11 operating system by integrating AI agents to automate routine tasks. The update aims to reduce the time users spend navigating complex menus by allowing them to execute commands directly through an expanded search bar on the taskbar.
Users can describe desired actions in plain language, such as switching between light and dark modes, adjusting volume, or organizing open windows. The system is also designed to interact with connected mobile devices via the Phone Link app to perform tasks like sending text messages. Microsoft intends to roll out thousands of such actions gradually, starting with basic functions.
Testing for this enhanced search capability began on October 7 in the Windows Insider experimental channel. The initial version supports English, and a broader rollout to all Windows 11 users is expected to follow.
