Microsoft integrates xAI's Grok models into Copilot assistant

Microsoft has announced the integration of xAI's Grok artificial intelligence models into its Copilot assistant. This move is part of Microsoft's multi-model strategy to provide users with diverse AI options rather than relying solely on a single provider like OpenAI.

The initial rollout will be conducted through the Microsoft Frontier program, a pilot phase that allows eligible users to test new capabilities and provide feedback. The integration will specifically target productivity applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. During this preview period, Grok will not be available to Frontier customers located in the European Union, the European Free Trade Association, or the United Kingdom.

Elon Musk and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella both publicly welcomed the integration on social media. However, the announcement comes as xAI faces legal scrutiny and a lawsuit in California regarding allegations that its tools have been used to generate non-consensual digital nudity involving women and minors.
