Microsoft introduces Windows Ready Print for Windows 11

Microsoft is introducing Windows Ready Print to simplify the printer installation process on Windows 11. This new platform utilizes the Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) to allow the operating system to use universal drivers instead of requiring users to manually download specific, often bulky, driver packages from manufacturer websites.

The rollout of this change began with Windows 11 updates in the summer of 2026. It is designed to apply to new installations rather than modifying existing printer configurations. To benefit from this streamlined process, printers must support IPP or be Mopria-certified. This update aims to reduce system errors caused by outdated or poorly optimized drivers and eliminate the need for third-party installers that often include unnecessary promotional software.
