Microsoft launches cheaper Surface PCs with reduced RAM

Microsoft has introduced new entry‑level versions of its 12‑inch Surface Pro and 13‑inch Surface laptop, offering lower starting prices by configuring the devices with 8 GB of memory while keeping the same processor and storage as previous models. The price reduction is a response to rising component costs and aims to provide a more affordable entry point for budget‑focused buyers.

Because the new configurations contain only 8 GB of RAM, they no longer meet the 16 GB minimum required for Microsoft’s Copilot+ certification. As a result, purchasers miss out on the on‑device AI features that Microsoft is positioning as the future of Windows PCs. The flagship Surface models continue to start with 16 GB, but the latest variants trade off AI capability to keep costs down.
