Microsoft launches Surface Laptop 8 and Surface Pro 12 with Snapdragon X2 AI processors

Microsoft introduced the Surface Laptop 8 and Surface Pro 12 on 16 June 2026 for consumer customers, with business availability slated for 14 July. Both devices are the first consumer‑focused PCs to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 platform, built on a 3‑nanometre process and featuring an Oryon CPU core and an 80‑TOPS neural processing unit. Microsoft says the new NPU doubles AI performance compared with the previous generation, enabling local tasks such as image generation and speech processing without continuous cloud connectivity.

The Surface Laptop 8 is offered in 13.8‑inch and 15‑inch models with battery life up to 20 hours of video playback, while the Surface Pro 12 (available with an OLED display option) delivers up to 15.5 hours. Prices start around €1,500 for the laptop and €1,400 for the Pro, with configurations up to 64 GB RAM and 1 TB storage. Additional features include Wi‑Fi 7, USB‑C/USB4 ports, and a 1440p webcam. Microsoft also announced a small Windows 11 26H2 enablement update alongside the launch, though some users report BitLocker and other security‑update issues.

The rollout underscores Microsoft’s broader AI strategy, which reported €37 billion in AI‑related revenue, a 123 percent increase year‑on‑year.
