Microsoft brings Xbox backward compatibility to PC with four classic games

Microsoft has launched Xbox backward compatibility on Windows PCs, allowing players to run four original Xbox titles—Blinx: The Time Sweeper, Conker: Live and Reloaded, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge and Fuzion Frenzy—through the Xbox app on Windows 11. The games are sold individually and are also available to Xbox Game Pass subscribers. Existing digital licenses on console automatically carry over to PC via Xbox Play Anywhere, and the PC versions add modern graphics options such as up to 4× resolution upscaling, VSync, anisotropic filtering and enhanced anti‑aliasing.

Microsoft confirmed that achievement support will be added later in the year, responding to a common community request. Technical analysis shows the PC compatibility layer relies on a nested Xbox 360 emulator (XeO3/Fusion), a detail uncovered by dataminers who examined the code. This hidden emulator suggests that future Xbox 360 titles could also become playable on PC. Performance testing on high‑end PCs and devices like the ROG Xbox Ally shows promising results, though some issues remain. Minimum hardware requirements include a GTX 950 or Radeon RX 550 GPU, a quad‑core CPU and 8 GB RAM, with higher‑end specs recommended for optimal experience.
