Microsoft merges Copilot consumer and enterprise apps

Microsoft is merging its consumer and enterprise versions of Copilot into a unified experience, aiming to create a single AI “super app.” This consolidation integrates Copilot’s chat and image generation capabilities with Microsoft 365 productivity tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

As part of this transition, the Microsoft 365 app is being rebranded as the Microsoft 365 Copilot app across Windows, Android, iOS, and the web. Users with both personal and professional accounts will see their content merged into one updated Copilot environment, though Microsoft emphasizes that work and personal data will remain isolated through separate account management and security controls.

The rollout includes updates to mobile and web versions in mid-August, with Windows and Mac versions following in mid-September. While the unification streamlines the user interface by removing the need for multiple icons, some existing features, such as podcasts and deep search, are scheduled to be discontinued after August 18.
