Microsoft MVP launches registry to track product rebranding
Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) Loryan Strant has launched the Microsoft Rebrand Registry, a website designed to track the frequent product name changes implemented by the company.
The registry documents 72 Microsoft products and 158 historical names used over the years. According to the site's analysis, a Microsoft product name survives for an average of two years and eleven months. Several products, including Azure DevOps, Azure SQL Database, and Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, have undergone at least three name changes.
Strant created the resource following discussions with other MVPs regarding the complexity of staying current with Microsoft’s branding exercises. The site also includes a methodology for predicting which products may be subject to upcoming rebrands based on the frequency of changes within specific product families.
