Microsoft navigates AI safety debates and cloud expansion

Microsoft is navigating a complex landscape of valuation shifts, infrastructure investment debates, and AI safety discussions. Redburn has raised its price target for Microsoft to $440 from $400, maintaining a ‘Neutral’ rating due to higher valuation multiples in the software-as-a-service sector.

On the technical side, the company’s stock has been compressing within a symmetrical triangle, with traders watching for a breakout above $500 or below $491. This comes amid strong cloud performance, with Azure and other cloud services revenue growing 40% in the latest reported quarter.

Regarding AI development, Microsoft AI chief Mustafa Suleyman has advocated for human control and shared safety standards, arguing that progress in China should not serve as a justification for bypassing AI guardrails. Meanwhile, investor Michael Burry has expressed concerns regarding the scale of hyperscaler commitments to AI infrastructure, noting that rapidly evolving hardware could impact the long-term viability of data-center investments. Additionally, Microsoft has expanded its AI capabilities in India, announcing that its cloud regions, including the India South Central region in Hyderabad, are now AI-enabled.
