Microsoft updates Windows 11 with Bluetooth and Search improvements

Microsoft is rolling out significant updates to Windows 11 aimed at improving Bluetooth connectivity and the user interface. A major focus of the recent October updates is enhancing Bluetooth reliability and speed. Specifically, Apple AirPods can now pair with Windows 11 up to 15 seconds faster, a performance boost of approximately 20% in some tests. The update also addresses several bugs, such as incorrect connection status displays in Quick Settings, issues where the Bluetooth radio failed to turn off completely, and improved microphone stability to prevent voice dropouts during video calls.

Additionally, Microsoft is testing a revamped Windows Search experience for the Windows Insider Program. This new search interface, built with WinUI 3, aims for faster speeds and lower memory usage. It will feature inline actions, allowing users to perform tasks like toggling dark mode, adjusting brightness, or managing Bluetooth settings directly from the search bar. Microsoft is also considering redesigning the functionality of the Windows key to allow for more integrated shortcuts, such as launching the new search interface directly.

Other technical improvements in recent builds include a new battery status widget for peripherals like mice and keyboards, enhanced Task Manager process grouping, and a 'Cloud Rebuild' feature that includes an option to securely sanitize data from storage during OS reinstallation.
