Microsoft optimizes Windows 11 setup and performance

Microsoft is implementing changes to the Windows 11 Out-of-Box Experience (OOBE) to reduce setup times, specifically for new ARM-based PCs such as Copilot+ devices using Snapdragon processors. Under the new system, device manufacturers can opt to defer non-essential driver and firmware updates until after the initial setup is complete. While critical patches required for device functionality will still install during the OOBE, less vital updates will be handled later via Windows Update, allowing users to reach the desktop faster.

Additionally, Windows 11 includes native settings to optimize system performance by redistributing tasks from the CPU to other components. Features such as hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling allow the graphics card to manage desktop rendering tasks, reducing CPU load. Other optimizations include utilizing DirectStorage for compatible games and offloading processes to the network adapter to improve overall system responsiveness and multitasking efficiency.
