Microsoft Planner integrates task management and AI features

Microsoft Planner is evolving as a central project planning tool within the Microsoft 365 ecosystem, following the retirement of Microsoft Project. The platform combines task management with advanced features such as Gantt charts, resource planning, and AI capabilities via Copilot.

Users can access various plan types, including personal, group-connected, Loop, To Do, and Premium plans. While basic capabilities like Grid, Board, Schedule, and Chart views are included in eligible Microsoft 365 subscriptions, higher-tier paid plans offer more complex tools. These include task dependencies, timeline views, workload balancing, and portfolio management.

Integration with Microsoft Teams and Microsoft 365 Groups allows for streamlined adoption across organizations. Higher-tier licenses also support specific dependency types—Finish-to-Start, Start-to-Start, Finish-to-Finish, and Start-to-Finish—along with lead and lag time adjustments for precise scheduling.
