Microsoft plans Xbox Gen-10 hardware family and player streak system
Internal Microsoft meeting transcripts suggest a significant shift in Xbox hardware strategy for the tenth generation (Gen-10). Asha Sharma, head of Microsoft's gaming division, reportedly indicated that the next generation will move away from a single console model toward a “family of devices.” This initiative, referred to internally as “Project Helix,” aims to provide diverse hardware solutions tailored to different player needs rather than a universal product. Sharma noted, “There is no one device that fits everyone,” suggesting that while a traditional high-end console will remain, Microsoft is also looking toward hardware designed for players on the move.
Separately, Microsoft is testing a new engagement feature called “Xbox Streak” through its Xbox Insider program. The system is designed to reward player consistency by tracking active gaming sessions. To maintain a streak, users must play on Xbox for at least three days per week. The feature, represented by a flame icon next to the player's Gamerscore, provides notifications regarding weekly progress to encourage regular participation.
