Microsoft releases Windows 11 2026 Update (26H2)

Microsoft has begun the rollout of the Windows 11 2026 Update, officially known as version 26H2. For devices already running versions 24H2 or 25H2, the update is delivered as a lightweight enablement package rather than a full operating system replacement. Because these versions share a common servicing branch and codebase, the update primarily activates features that have already been gradually introduced through monthly updates.

Key features in this release include enhanced AI integration, such as a new Settings agent that responds to natural language commands and Task Manager improvements for monitoring NPU performance. Other updates include customizable Start menu sizes, taskbar positioning options, and improved security features like post-quantum cryptography support.

The update also resets the support lifecycle, providing 24 months of support for Home and Pro editions, and 36 months for Enterprise and Education editions. Microsoft is utilizing a controlled, phased rollout to ensure stability, meaning the update may not appear for all eligible devices simultaneously.
