Microsoft prepares Windows 11 26H2 update

Microsoft is preparing the release of Windows 11 26H2, which is expected to be an incremental update rather than a major overhaul. The version shares much of its code, patches, and compatibility mechanisms with Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2.

For users already on versions 24H2 or 25H2, the transition to 26H2 will likely be a simple activation package. However, users on older versions, such as 22H2 or 23H2, will require a more significant upgrade process because they belong to a different maintenance branch.

The primary purpose of the 26H2 update is to reset the support lifecycle. Home and Pro editions will receive 24 months of maintenance, while Enterprise and Education editions will receive 36 months. Microsoft plans to support 26H2 for individuals until 2028 and for businesses until 2029.
