Microsoft releases major Windows 11 update with security fixes and UI changes
Microsoft has released a major cumulative update for Windows 11, notably KB5124008, which addresses nearly 1,000 vulnerabilities. This includes approximately 119 critical issues involving remote code execution and privilege escalation.
Beyond security, the update introduces significant interface changes. For the first time since the launch of Windows 11, users can reposition the taskbar to the top, left, or right sides of the screen. Other UI enhancements include a resizable Start menu, the ability to hide the 'Recommended' section, and improved privacy controls that allow users to disable Bing and Microsoft Store results within Windows Search.
Microsoft is also focusing on system performance, specifically optimizing memory consumption for devices with 8GB of RAM and improving boot speeds. Additionally, the company is transitioning toward an enablement package model for future updates, such as version 26H2, which will function as a lightweight switch to activate features already embedded in the OS architecture.
