Microsoft releases 2026 Responsible AI Transparency Report
Microsoft has released its third annual Responsible AI Transparency Report, focusing heavily on the rise of agentic AI—systems capable of autonomous decision-making and executing multi-step tasks.
To address the complexities of these systems, Microsoft has redesigned its Responsible AI Standard to align with the AI technology stack, covering models, platform services, and applications. The company identified several drivers for this overhaul, including rapid enterprise adoption, the expansion of generative capabilities, and an increasingly complex global regulatory environment.
Key initiatives highlighted in the report include the introduction of an AI Red Teaming Agent to probe systems for vulnerabilities and the formation of an External Red Team Alliance involving 18 universities across six continents. Additionally, Microsoft noted it has achieved ISO 42001 certifications for several products, including Microsoft 365 Copilot, Foundry, and GitHub Copilot.
