Microsoft updates Windows 11 lifecycle and Insider features
Microsoft is implementing several updates and lifecycle changes for the Windows operating system. Notably, support for Windows 11 version 24H2 Home and Pro editions is scheduled to end on October 13, 2026. After this date, these versions will no longer receive monthly security or non-security preview updates. Users are encouraged to transition to version 25H2 to maintain support.
Recent Windows 11 Insider Preview builds have introduced various functional improvements. These include enhanced mobile integration via the Phone Companion feature in the Start menu, which allows users to view more recent smartphone activity through a scrollable pane. Other updates include energy-saving recommendations in Quick Settings, a new pointer indicator for improved accessibility, and the testing of a taskbar list view as an alternative to thumbnails.
However, some users have reported technical issues. Recent updates have caused black screen errors for certain systems, particularly Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) hosts using FSLogix. Microsoft has addressed this for managed enterprise devices through a Known Issue Rollback (KIR) via group policy.
