Microsoft removes Mico avatar from Copilot Voice

Microsoft is removing Mico, the animated yellow blob character used to provide visual personality to Copilot Voice, from its core voice experience. Introduced in October 2025 to add emotional expression and interactivity to AI conversations, the character is being transitioned to the education-focused Learn Live feature, where it will serve as a tutor.

This shift suggests a strategic pivot for Microsoft, moving Copilot away from an “AI companion” persona toward a more integrated, productivity-centric assistant focused on work and learning. The removal aligns with ongoing efforts to merge Copilot consumer and commercial versions into a more unified product line. While the visual character will no longer appear in voice mode, the voice interaction functionality itself remains available to users.
