Microsoft removes WMIC utility from Windows 11

Microsoft has officially removed the Windows Management Instrumentation Command-line (WMIC) utility from currently supported versions of Windows 11, starting with version 24H2 and continuing through subsequent updates. Unlike previous versions where the utility could be re-enabled as a Feature on Demand, it is no longer available as an optional feature in the latest builds.

While the legacy command-line interface is being retired, the underlying Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) remains supported. Microsoft recommends that IT administrators and organizations transition their existing batch files, deployment scripts, and monitoring tools to more modern interfaces, such as PowerShell and WMI APIs.

The removal follows a multi-year deprecation process that began in 2016 with Windows Server 2012 and continued through various Windows 10 and 11 releases. For users on specific builds like Windows 11 Build 22572, the utility may still be manageable through the Settings app under Optional features, but the long-term support for the tool is ending.
