Microsoft restores movable taskbar in Windows 11 update

Microsoft is introducing a significant update to Windows 11 that restores the ability to move the taskbar to the left, right, or top edges of the screen. This change addresses long-standing user feedback regarding the limitations of the initial Windows 11 interface. Users will also be able to resize the taskbar to increase available desktop space.

Beyond taskbar adjustments, the update provides new customization options for the Start menu, allowing users to hide the ‘All’, ‘Pinned’, and ‘Recommended’ sections. Additionally, Microsoft is adding a toggle to disable Bing search results within the Start menu, enabling users to restrict searches to local files. Other improvements include making OneDrive backup options easier to disable to reduce system intrusiveness.

These features are currently available in preview via the KB5120998 update, with a broader stable release expected around the September Patch Tuesday. While some preview versions have reported minor mouse cursor glitches, the update is part of a broader effort by the Windows team to incorporate user feedback into the operating system's UI logic.
