Microsoft rolls out AI-driven Flint visualization tool and autonomous chip design workflows in 2026

Microsoft Research announced Flint, an open‑source AI tool that uses semantic data types to automatically generate polished charts from minimal input. By encoding the meaning of data fields, Flint removes the need for manual configuration of scales, axes and colors, and can output to platforms such as Vega‑Lite, Apache ECharts and Chart.js. Benchmarks show Flint improving LLM‑judge scores over baseline methods, and the tool is already used in Microsoft’s Data Formulator project.

At the 2026 DAC Chips to Systems conference, Synopsys, in partnership with AMD and Microsoft, demonstrated autonomous agentic AI workflows for chip design on Microsoft Discovery. The workflows, powered by AgentEngineer™ technology, automate debug closure and implementation tuning, cutting debug cycle time by 25‑40 % and improving quality‑of‑results. Early evaluations indicate faster issue resolution and higher silicon quality, with AMD evaluating the technology for its next‑generation products.
