Microsoft overhauls Windows 11 Search and manages version updates
Microsoft is rolling out significant updates and changes to the Windows 11 ecosystem. A major overhaul of the Windows 11 Search function has been introduced, rebuilt on the WinUI 3 framework. This redesign aims to improve performance and reduce memory consumption while transforming the taskbar search into an AI-driven command center. New 'inline actions' allow users to execute system commands—such as toggling dark mode, adjusting brightness, or managing Bluetooth—directly from the search bar without opening separate settings menus.
Simultaneously, Microsoft is managing the transition between Windows versions. The 26H2 update is being deployed, though it currently faces known bugs affecting USB audio devices, Active Directory logins, and Azure Virtual Desktop displays. Microsoft is also working with Intel on the Driver Quality Initiative to prevent system crashes caused by faulty kernel-mode drivers.
Users are also being cautioned about approaching end-of-support dates. Support for Windows 11 23H2 Enterprise and Education editions is scheduled to end on November 10, 2026, while Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro editions will lose support on October 13, 2026. Organizations are encouraged to transition to newer versions to avoid security vulnerabilities.
