Microsoft says Windows 12 will not arrive before 2027
Microsoft has told reporters that it has no plans to launch a new Windows operating system before 2027. The company will continue to develop Windows 11, delivering regular updates and larger feature packs rather than rushing a next‑generation release. Executives said a Windows 12, if it appears, is unlikely to be released before 2027 and may retain hardware requirements similar to Windows 11, allowing most current PCs to run it. No subscription‑only edition is expected; the focus remains on free security updates for consumers. Microsoft also highlighted ongoing work on AI‑driven features, such as agent‑based assistants and integration with its Copilot services, which will be rolled out within the existing Windows 11 ecosystem before any new OS arrives.
