Microsoft secures Physint publishing rights for less than expected
Microsoft has secured the publishing rights for Physint, an ambitious espionage game led by Hideo Kojima, for a cost significantly lower than previous industry speculations. While initial rumors suggested a budget of approximately $400 million, reports indicate the final deal is substantially less, with some sources suggesting it may be under $200 million.
Originally intended as a PlayStation exclusive, Sony reportedly passed on the project due to concerns regarding its timeline, budget, and commercial scope. Following this impasse, Kojima presented the proposal directly to Xbox brand lead Asha Sharma, who accepted the project. The agreement between Xbox and Kojima Productions also reportedly includes provisions for a film and television adaptations.
Physint is currently in its early stages and does not yet have a release date. It is expected to launch following the release of OD, another collaborative project between Kojima Productions and Microsoft. Kojima Productions has stated that the studio remains profitable and sustainable, maintaining a strong institutional relationship with Sony despite the transition of this project.
