Microsoft Sets 2026 End Dates for Whiteboard and Publisher Apps
Microsoft announced that its legacy Whiteboard service will be retired in 2026. Enterprise customers must migrate all legacy Whiteboard content to OneDrive‑backed whiteboards before August 22, 2026, after which the migration tooling will be disabled. Any remaining legacy whiteboards will be permanently deleted on September 5, 2026, and the standalone Whiteboard desktop and mobile apps will cease support on September 14, 2026, with users expected to access Whiteboard through Microsoft Teams.
Support for Microsoft Publisher will end on October 1, 2026, removing the application from Microsoft 365 subscriptions. Users who need to retain access to existing .pub files are advised to convert them to PDF before the shutdown. A community‑provided PowerShell script automates batch conversion of Publisher files to PDF, preserving documents after the product’s retirement.
