Microsoft Surface Laptop freezes as RAM limits affect PCs and smartphones

Microsoft introduced a new Surface Laptop with 8 GB of LPDDR5X memory at a price of $949.99. Testing showed that Windows 11 on the device consumes a large portion of the RAM, leaving only a few gigabytes for multitasking. When multiple applications such as Teams, Chrome, Slack and Signal run simultaneously, the system often freezes for several seconds before responding again.

At the same time, smartphone manufacturers are expanding RAM capacities to meet growing artificial‑intelligence workloads. Analyses indicate that 6 GB is sufficient for basic tasks, 8 GB covers most users’ needs, and 12‑16 GB is reserved for power users. The push for larger memory modules is raising device prices, with companies like Google, Apple and Samsung expected to pass higher component costs onto consumers.
