Microsoft to showcase local AI hardware at Windows and Surface event

Microsoft is hosting a Windows and Surface event in San Francisco focused on the integration of local artificial intelligence. The presentation is expected to feature Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, signaling a deep partnership to move AI workloads from the cloud directly onto personal computers.

A primary highlight is the Surface Laptop Ultra, a high-performance device built on NVIDIA’s RTX Spark platform. This hardware utilizes a super-SoC design combining a Grace CPU and a Blackwell GPU. The laptop is designed for developers and creators, capable of running large AI models with up to 128GB of unified memory and delivering up to one petaflop of AI computing performance.

Technical specifications for the Surface Laptop Ultra include a 15-inch PixelSense Ultra mini-LED touchscreen with up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness. The device is expected to offer various configurations, including 18-core and 20-core options, and features a haptic touchpad that is significantly larger than previous models. The event also aims to showcase how Windows will evolve into an agent-based platform for local AI workflows.
